Southwest Escape

The Joshua Tree House

We're heading into week 6 of working from home, and week 5 of Stay At Home orders in Minnesota. With so much still unknown, I'm doing my best to stay positive and focus on the future. Someday, this will all be behind us. I've been trying to challenge myself to identify what I'll want to change once we're "normal" again, and one thing that stands out most is deeper gratitude. I take so much for granted, from little things like being able to find everything I want at the grocery store, to big things like being able to travel. I'm yearning to explore again, but since I'm hunkering down at home, I'll have to daydream instead. One area that is giving me major interior inspiration: the Southwest.

When I think of the Southwest states, I think of expansive desert vistas, rugged textures, and sunset hues bringing liveliness against neutral backdrops. Can't you just picture it? Given we are still in the 40s for morning temperatures here, the warmth that exudes from this visual is so dreamy to me right now. There is such a distinguishable design aesthetic to this region, and in my opinion it's all of the natural richness that makes it so coveted.

Even if you're like me and live a thousand miles from this area of the US, you can still create a little Southwest-inspired space in your home. After all, if we've learned anything from this quarantine, it's that we all could use a little place to escape right where we are.
