6 Alternatives to Dress Up Your Walls
Designing a home can feel overwhelming. You want each space to feel inviting yet interesting. Although I get asked a wide range of design recommendations, one that tends to hang people up the most is what to put on their walls. Art prints and photographs are a great solution, but sometimes you want to think outside of the box/frame. Thankfully, there are plenty of creative alternatives to style up your room.
In case you missed it, I am a huge sucker for houseplants. Not only do they add an earthy touch, they (almost literally) breathe life into a space. Biophilic design is centered around the principle that natural elements have mental and physical benefits to humans, so this wall choice is truly an all-around win. Check ECG's sleek wall planters here.
Macramé weavings have been riding a resurgence in popularity for some time now, but there are many other textile art styles out there to add some boho texture in your walls. ECG has an array of options that you can score here, including my personal favorite from ECG is the Chunky Wool Wall Hanging No. 1 (here).
I've found that wall sculptural art is the hardest to shop for, but can have the most impact. The three-dimensional design is an attention-getter, which makes it perfect as a focal point in a room, like over a fireplace or on a main wall. Although the name insinuates it would be a metal object, you could easily find creative ways to hang objects to create your own DIY wall art. I love this example; it's subtle overall, but the pops of color bring some fun boldness.
Alright, I know this is kind of a fusion of woven and sculptural, but how could I not break out this section to share this inspiration photo? I love the look of handmade baskets arranged in a display together, or an oversized one hung solo. If you go this route, be sure to do your research to make sure the baskets are ethically sourced! It's also a great opportunity for you to learn about the culture of the weavers who create them.
Technically this one is usually in a frame, but cut me some slack! Mirrors are a fantastic way to visually expand your room and reflect natural light to brighten darker areas. An oversized mirror above a mantle is a TKO, if you ask me. Click here to shop our wall mirrors.
What better way to show some pride for your state than with a cool flag? Ideally, you could find a vintage one for some character, but either way it can be a fun display. Tapestries are also a great way to show some pattern and color in a room. I love this museum-worthy wonder:
There you have it, friends! I hope that helped you think beyond art and photo prints - though those are great, too. Want further ideas for dressing up your walls? Click here to shop all that Eclectic Goods has to offer!
