5 Easy Home Projects to Refresh During Lockdown

We’re officially on day 14 of social distancing. It’s hard to believe. I worked from home for 3 of the last 6 years, so while I don’t mind remote life, I am definitely missing socialization with friends and family. I’m just trying to take it day by and day and do what I can to slow the spread. Although there are a lot of negatives of these circumstances, there are endless positives, too. For me, it’s more important than ever to focus on my blessings and maintain optimism for the future. We will get through this.

#StayAtHome

One fun thing that’s come out of this pandemic is getting to watch how people are channeling their time at home. I’ve seen friends testing out baking sourdough bread with a home starter. Many people are growing seeds indoors ahead of peak spring. My sister-in-law has taken her yoga teaching online with virtual classes. It’s all so inspiring! I don’t know about you, but all of this time at home has me eyeing up our rooms and daydreaming of projects.

If you’re like me and eager to spruce up your space, here are some ideas to help you take advantage of being on lockdown, whether you’re trying to save or splurge!

Painted Wallpaper

A dear friend of mine is revamping her kids’ bathroom during her time at home, and it’s giving me all sorts of inspiration for our upstairs bath. This option has a ton of perks. Not only does it give you full creative control, but it’s also affordable and far easier to tackle if you are solo or time-constrained. Don’t get me wrong though, if you’ve got the time, there are plenty of stunning wallpaper designs that will take any room to a whole different level. Check out all the beautiful styles from Eclectic Goods here.

Vanity DIY

Another simple way to shake up your bathroom without draining your wallet: paint your vanity. As I mentioned in our 2020 trend post, color is making a major comeback, so why not embrace a little pop of a new hue? I am really craving adding more warmth to our home, and a vanity makeover feels like a unique twist instead of just changing the walls. Added perk: this project would be easy to tackle in a weekend!

Throw Pillow Remix

I have been spending most of my day in our main room, which is a fusion of living and dining areas. Our couch is the focal point, so naturally I find my eyes gravitating towards it. I love each throw pillow on it right now, but have other areas in our home where I could easily move them to. Whether you’re looking to swap them to a new room or to a new home, throw pillows are a great way to give a little revamp magic. Looking to snag some new ones? Click here.

Fixture Swap

Lighting can often be overlooked, particularly for ceiling fixtures. Since they’re usually not in our direct visual plane, we forget how much of an impact they have. My husband and I swapped all of the original dome lights about a month after purchasing our home, and it did wonders for each room. Although ceiling lights are a great place to start, you don’t need to stop there. New sconces, pendants, or lamps are a quick way to make an impactful change in any space. Like the other project ideas, this can easily be done after work or on the weekend – bonus! Ready to brighten up your space? Go Green

Last but certainly not least, get your green thumb on! What better house project is there than to get some house plants? After all, if we’re being told you stay indoors, then why not bring some of the outdoor in? I can’t say enough how much I have loved learning to care for the green potted pals in my home. Seriously, they bring me an embarrassing amount of joy. Snag some cute planters or vases like these beauties from Eclectic Goods and get all green goodness going!
